Youngsters Sweep Over Agriculture

Hi, everyone in the world!! What's up? Here is my today's column:

Recently, youngsters who try to work as a farmer have been increasing though farm management is not easy and full of difficulties. Swiss info reported it today.

According to the article dated on May 5 in their website, it was reported that the number of students in farm schools are skyrocketing.

The popularity has going higher since 2002, and it does not show the decline. In addition, it is said that some of those who had compulsory educations in other fields take the course of farm education trying to change their jobs.

This is the story in Switzerland, but in Japan, youngsters who want to be farmers are said to be increasing, too. Why do the youngsters start to have interest in farm industry? Are they tired of city life? Or are they fed up with material society or harsh money seeking corporate organizations?

They must have a variety of reasons, but it will be true that this is a signal to prove that something in modern society is going wrong. Those youngsters are definitely fed up with something in this current society.

Thank you for visiting and have happy day!!

P.S. I am listing my debut volume, "Falling Japan ~On The Verge of Bankruptcy and Destruction" on ebay. Please take a look at the auction page.

the need for more farming is because of "peak oil", but i doubt the youngs

even know about it, it is more likely the older people at the top of institutions

that are pushing to get more farmers with publicity, without explaining why it is

needed, the younf follow like sheeps

it is visible even in mainstream movies, planting this idea in youngsters' mind,

even in country where farming land space is rare and expensive, like Japan, if

you watch the movie yaku sanju no uso, you'll see one of the male characters

wants one of the female to leave the train with him and live a new life as

farmers in Hokkaido, and shows her a booklet about farming to convince her
(^_^)

here, i'll use the word "oil" as a generic word for "fossil fuel" so that the

word oil include: liquid form (oil), gazeous form (natural gaz) and solid form

(coal)

peak oil is when the demand for oil increase as the availability of oil decrease,

when demand equals availability or demand gets bigger than availability, unlike

before, when oil availability was not a problem, they just needed to pump

more oil out of the ground... but now, we have reached peak oil

when the public hears "peak oil", they think of a higher price for gaz when

they fill up the gaz tank of their car, but they don't know that they eat oil.

yes, you eat oil, litterally, like all of us. i have eaten oil all of my life since i

was born, just like you. no kidding.

fertilizers are made with ammonia, and 90% of the price of ammonia is the

price of natural gaz that it is made from, the higher the price of natural gaz,

the higher the price of fertilizer.

when you eat a tangerine, part of that tangerine is oil because of fertilizer,

so, you do eat oil.

the amount of vegetables, fruits & grain that modern farmers can harvest

from the ground is possible because of fertilizer and machines (tractors, etc.)

that need oil to fonction.

when you go to the store to buy tangerines, you use a plastic bag (made

from oil) to hold them, you walk on a floor that was cleaned with a detergent

(made from oil), you pay those tangerines with a credit card (made from oil),

the cashier punches the price on a keyboard (made from oil) with her fingers

and you notice her painted fake fingernails (made from oil), then you go back

home in your car (because of oil) to eat those tangerines that grew because

of fertilizers (made from oil)

you are what you eat

you are oil

everything man made is possible, at least in part, because of oil, oil is every

where, disguise in ways you cannot even imagine

i don't know the numbers for asia, but in nord america and europe, when you

draw a chart for the growth of human population and another chart for the

growth of oil extraction, both charts match, the drawings showing the growth is

the same for both

it is possible to have that much humans alive because of oil, fertilizers to eat,

soap for higiene to reduce diseases and infections, etc.

when people think of fossil fuels, they see dead dinausores that turned into oil

millions of years ago, wich is true, but the root of it is solar energy feeding

plants that feed animals that feed a bigger dinosaur... or solar energy feeding

plankton feeding fish feeding shark that dies at the bottom of the sea,

decomposes and turn into oil, or natural gaz or coal.

oil is a long and complex form of transformed solar energy that has been

accumulated for millions of years

millions of year of sun rays transformed by photosynthesis turned into oil in

the ground

all that old energy getting release now creates the global warming

farming is photosynthesis, farming is solar energy

the oil boosted the number of humans on earth, as if we had many planet

earths to collect sun ray and grow tangerines, we HAD that energy, but we

don't now, we have reached "peak oil"

one of the ways to mitigate peak oil is to harvest oil directly with farming

south america is famous for ethanol made with sugar cane and because they

use every residuals (not used for ethanol) back in the ground to fertilize it,

they are pretty much independant and don't need natural gaz to fertilize the

ground to make ethanol, they don't need oil to make oil...

north america does not have the climate to harvest sugar cane, so, they use

corn instead. for the same area (land size), a crop of corn make 8 time

LESS ethanol than sugar cane, and you need fertilizer to grow that corn.
(;_;)

here, we have more and more farmers using a greater part of their land for

corn, some farmers are planning to make their own ethanol production plant

and sell directly ethanol, they dream of becoming as rich as arabic sheikh

in Canada there is a lot of research to transform wood lignin into ethanol so

that they could harvest the forest instead of corn

as more farms turn to ethanol (tree, corn or sugar cane), there will be less

farm for tangerines and the price of tangerine will go up, that means more

money for farmers

more farmers are needed because of peak oil

Hi marcchabot,

Hi again! Thank you very much for the very insightful story m(_ _)m
I had lots of fun to read it, and it was persuasive.

I didn't know the movie where Hokkaido, my living place appeared (it seems that you know Japan's movies more than I (* ̄∇ ̄*)).

Reading your comment, I just thought a little that declining birthrate may be good in some ways though some governments may hate it from the perspective of economy.

Thank you so much for teaching your knowledge spending your precious time!! It was exciting!!

Good night or have a nice!!
