I may have a bit bad memory about what Abraham Lincoln said, but it seems not wrong thinking of the pension matter in Japan government.
The ruling party keeps claiming Social Insurance Agency for the disappeared records, around 51,000,000 cases (publicly announced number). However, some people on internet are talking about the "Eaten Money" not disappeared records.
Thinking calmly, some citizens begin to notice that the number of the disappeared cases is too much. It will be true that the government workers in the Social Insurance Agency have done terribly wrong, and if the same thing happened in a private firm, so many people would have been arrested and fired. But, another truth is that the money must have been used by other government workers and people in public corporations.
Some citizens start to feel that the saving of the pension does not exist actually having eaten out by government related people. That's why when politicians in Democratic Party asked the ruling party to show how much the remaining value of the accumulated pension is, the ruling party could not answer at all. Of course, they will be unable to tell the money that has gone away already.
Though the politicians in the ruling party say that a labor union in the Social Insurance Agency is connected with the Democratic Party, but the fact is that this opposite party disclosed and pursued the matter of the pension in the Social Insurance Agency.
In addition, Japanese citizens may have already forgotten that a politician in the Democratic Party who was about to disclose the truth for the pension problem was KILLED around 5 years ago. This means that there IS a fact that government officials NEVER want citizens to know about this pension matter.
When the government loses the trust from citizens completely, the destruction of nation will truly start.

The name of the politician is Ishii who was said to be a very rare politician seeking for a truth.
The murder was totally pushed deeply down underground. It was said that the reason was related to a matter of religion that he tried to point out some problems, but it was clear that the matter was totally related to the benefits of some politicians and government officials.
A magazine in 2002 mentioned that some politicians must have felt released after Mr. Ishii was killed because Mr. Ishii tried to uncover a big corruption related to Liberal Democratic Party.

has the eaten money (or the so called fifty million deleted records) been mesured and counted by independent accountants or does the public have to believe the official numbers? this is similar to the enron scandal, but on a country scale.
on our side of the pond, a colonel of military college in Kingston was quoted in the toronto star newspaper saying (at the end) that government needs to be attacked to keep the war going in citizens minds.

As for the number of the so-called deleted pension, it is an official number not counted by independent accountants. So, truth is in the air as well as the pension.
Now in Japan, so many people seem to have forgotten to claim the government that supported the existence of weapons of mass destruction.

It is interesting to see the real priorities of J government, deleted pensions means more old people dying of hunger and they don't care, defective sony batteries and the government react strongly (last year?) with a warning letter that the company have to send employees to officially get the warning letter in front of journalists; so if you don't get your pension it's not a big deal, but if the sony battery of my thinkpad burst into flames it is a big deal. From this i can conclude that big J corporations have more political weight that all J citizens put together... Incredible but it seems the battery inside my X30 has more political weight than Shogo! If i ship it back to Japan, does my sony battery has the right to vote the 29th if i write the names of different LDP, PNP and DPJ members of each side of the battery and the vote goes for the one name that touches the ground when the battery is dropped on the floor, like flipping a coin? ne? (giggle) Seriously, on about 124 million people, some being childrens and teenagers, that would mean about half of the adult population will not have any pension? Based on past experiences with all those pathological liars (politicians), i would bet that 50 million is lower than real numbers.
The J government support of the bogus W.M.D. and superficial military participation in the Iraq war will be the reason why the J population will still have his share of iranian oil after the Usa nuke Iran to steal the oil. I'm sure the coming third pearl harbor is known to the highest echelon in the J government and that they have an agreement with the Usa to keep their fair share of the futur stolen oil. I was talking with friends and as soon as i began to tell them about the secret services "running" at the russian nuclear breifcases (to make sure they would not be sold to rogue governments just after the fall of the communist empire 15 years ago) i was interrupted when one of them told me (he still has a tv!) that on the fox tv network they repeatedly show arabic terrorists with "nuclear breifcase" in their programs... So, many millions of gullible american tv watchers are brainwashed and when the next pearl harbor happens their mind will "fill the gap" of missing information and come to the conclusion that arabic terrorists did it with a small portable nuclear breifcase, and because the idea came from their own mind they will believe it true 100%, of course this is the old trick of manipulating someone to making him come up with an idea because you know that if the idea come from himself, it will be accepted as good and true. This is just like to so called coincidental pilot episode of "the lone gunmen" that aired many months before 9/11, it will be the same thing with one of those show that aired on fox tv network showing arabic terrorists with nuclear breifcase, it will be another coincidence. History repeats hitself, over and over again.
I can already picture that criminal W Bush lying to his gullible citizens that many more terrorist cells with nuclear breifcase are hiding in every major american cities and that only martial law and a military government can save the Usa from armageddon. This is so obvious why the current administration does not care about their popularity and the next american election, because there won't be a next election with martial law. Damn!

As for the pension of adult population, government has just announced that they can pay, but many citizens do not believe it at face value. We cannot know how much the pension will be in the future or how much citizens have to pay. It seems that we are forced to wait the bankruptcy.
Sugar price and gas for cars are clearly going high in Japan, too. Or rather, I feel that price in many fields start to go up. This may be sort of stagflation in economic view, but I know this is not happening economically but politically thanks to your message.
I never knew the situation in Mexico. I understand that it's one of the absolute evidences of peak oil.
